Demand for solar energy continues to accelerate. Signed power purchase agreements exceeding 70 GW will result in more than 500,000 acres of new PV solar by the end of 2024, with millions more acres to follow. Did you know that you could model the Earth's climate? This is your chance to become an amateur climatologist. Join Steven Moses on November 17 for a demonstration of an online tool that will allow you to play with different variables that affect the Earth's climate.
The En-ROADS climate simulator is a freely-available online tool, based on an extensive model from Climate Interactive, that allows users to explore how global energy sources and the resulting expected amount of warming depend on societal, political, and economic factors. In this talk, Steven will explain how to use the simulator and show an example of the steps that the model says can be taken in order to keep the amount of warming to an acceptable level.
https://www.climateinteractive.org/
About the Speaker: Steven Moses is a physicist working on building a practical quantum computer. He first moved to Colorado in 2010, and obtained his PhD in physics from CU Boulder in 2016. In his free time, he loves exploring and recreating in the mountains. Among other things, his love of nature has led him to be deeply concerned about the changing climate. He is a volunteer with Citizens' Climate Lobby and is training to be a Climate Ambassador for the En-ROADS climate simulator. Through this volunteer work, he hopes to inform the public about simple solutions that can help to solve the climate crisis, and engage people to take action.
